old skool 90′s photography – Andreas Gursky

What a legend this guy is. He is my favourite photographer. He uses a large camera and montages many images together to make one broad as view! The camera is the panopticon of our time…the all seeing eye….

Gursky’s tiny people are totally unaware of being captured like butterflies and pinned to the wall for examination. Their natural expressions, gestures and body language reveal much more intriguing stories than posed images- don’t you think?

Check out the couple on the bottom right of the pool, deep in a real conversation. The next picture is of the swiss mountains. Gursky claims not to have seen the tiny people trekking on the hillside at the time of shooting. when he developed the film he discovered the ant like creaures. you might have to squint but imagine it very large on a wall. the third picture is going to have to be one of Gursky’s photographs in context right!

I am still a bunny…..

Paradise found! I Am a Bunny, by Ole Risom, with pictures by Richard Scarry, from 1963.  For sheer joi de vivre and unadulterated adorableness, it is unsurpassed. It also has those thick pages that you can chew on. This is without doubt the first piece of art that caught my eye as a child. I think of it often and how the bright colours and classic compositions have inspired me to this day. Thank you to Looky for taking the time to scan the book.i am a bunny
